Roman Oil Lamp tutorials in 4MR!

After making Roman oil lamps, writing instructions on how to make them and then editing them to 'incredible' level, the children in 4MR wanted to make video tutorials... so they did!

One of the videos will be uploaded to the school's YouTube page - stay tuned!

The pictures used in the tutorials were generic and not the child's own design.

Here are some of the successes:

Ice Hands!

Year Four finished the week off with a science investigation. The children were observing, over time, the changes states can go through when heat is added. There were predictions made on which part of the ice hand would melt the quickest and how long it would take for the whole hand to melt. Year Four thought of different ways they could measure to show how the hands were melting. Some children decided to use thermometers to measure the temperature of the water and others decided to use a ruler to measure the length. Lastly, conclusions were made on the effect the environment can have on states of matter.

Peer editing in 4MR

This week, the children in Year 4 made Roman oil lamps and then wrote some fantastic instructions on how to make them.

Today, in 4MR, the children worked in pairs to peer edit their work. They were set a mission. It was to turn the standard of their instructions from fantastic to incredible! It was lovely to see the children giving top tips to each other and then acting on the feedback.

Below are some pictures of the children working together. Lots of them were so focused, they didn't even realise they were being photographed!

Ice Cream extravaganza

Last Friday children in Year 4 had the opportunity to learn how to make Ice Cream. Children learnt about the scientific process involved when hand making ice cream and how tricky this can be too. Children enjoyed working in small groups to create their very own ice cream. After the hard work of making, children had the opportunity to taste the fruits of their labour. Children were able to write out a fantastic set of instructions in order to tell others how they could make it too!

Home Learning Information for Year Four

This coming term, the home learning expectations are as follows:

Each week, there will be times table practice and either a written consolidation or Mathletics task set. (30 minutes)

In school, we have a weekly focus on a spelling rule. A list of spellings to learn that follow the week's rule will be provided. (20 minutes)

Children should read with an adult at least three times a week at home. Where possible, this could be every day. Renaissance Home Connect enables parents to see information about your child's progress within Accelerated Reader.

This home learning will be set on a Thursday and will be due in the following Tuesday. Home learning will recommence on Thursday 11th January.

Class teachers will let their class know the day of the week spelling tests will take place.
