Fun with fractions!

Last week, the children in Year 4 started a new maths learning journey. Fractions. There was a look of nervousness among the children when they found out they were going to become masters of fractions, but this didn't last long!

The children spent all last week investigating everything fractions. Right from understanding fractions as parts of wholes to investigating fractions of amounts. They loved using the practical equipment for their investigations and working in teams to find solutions to problems or evidence for statements.

Some children from 4MR even made it on to the #proudofmyselfie display board in the school corridor!

Here are some photos of the children investigating fractions in 4MR. No more anxious faces... just smiles and confidence!

Be An Author Week

Children in Year 4 have had the opportunity to participate in many exciting activities during Be an Author week. On Friday, children dressed up as their favourite book character and were extremely excited to see that Year 4 teachers and staff had dressed up too!

During our Year 4 assembly we took the time to allow children in each class to show off their fantastic outfits in a short fashion show followed by each child having their character guessed by the remaining classes. We were extremely impressed with the effort and creativity of the outfits that the children wore and found it very difficult to choose a winner in each class for the most creative costume. However, after much deliberation the four children were chosen and received a certificate. Below are some pictures from the assembly including our four costume winners!

Well done to all children, parents and carers in Year 4 who helped the children with their costume efforts, we all had a fantastic day!

Stone Age Art 4AW

It's a bit late but we wanted to show you some of our cave art from our Stone Age topic. The backgrounds were completed with watercolour paints and cling film to give a rock like effect. We then used pastels over the top to add figures and animals that we had researched from the caves at Lascaux.
