Their task? Build a mini raft that could support a number of marbles... The winning team was the team that built the raft that could hold the most marbles before sinking.
They had only 15 minutes to plan, design and build!

Each team was given a piece of card, sellotape, 4 straws, 8 lollypop sticks and scissors. They could use nothing else.
The range of designs, ideas and scientific reasoning was impressive! Furthermore, their teamwork was outstanding.
The most creative design was definitely this one by Jessica, Lilly and Demirose! The girls wanted a flat, sturdy base and attached sealed straws at the bottom for buoyancy. They then created a pouch to hold the marbles. It held 7 before the raft toppled over. They soon realised they needed a bigger base! Well done girls!
But the winners, holding an incredible 14 marbles, were...
Finlay, Seth and Leo went for bigger surface area with a boundary to keep the marbles from rolling off. Their raft held 14 marbles before sinking! Well done boys!
