Future Me in 4MH

Children in 4MH have been busy making presentations and slide shows on the topic of their choice. They are working towards earning their Bronze, Silver and Gold badges for their Future Me. In 4MH, we have listened to presentations on the history of Pokemon, the history of electricity and today Mia shared some Christmas spirit telling us about the history of Christmas and why we celebrate Christmas. It's wonderful to see the children taking responsibility for their learning by making these presentations at home or during break time. Keep up the good work!

Celebrating differences in 4MR!

Today, the children and adults in 4MR celebrated their differences to raise awareness of bullying during anti-bullying week.

All the chairs and tables were pushed back and the children gathered in a circle. We listened to how we were all different and opened up about if we had ever felt discriminated against before. The children loved discussing their thoughts and listening to each other.

We learnt that we are all different, but all equal too!
The adults were very proud of the children and impressed with their understanding of the subject.

Below are some photos of the discussion:

More story writing in 4MR!

Children in 4MR have loved seeing their work shared on the blog and have asked to share more!

Over the past week, the children have been writing their own imaginary stories set in the Stone Age. This work was completely independent and gave the children the chance to apply the skills and sentences they had learnt to their own story.

Poppy used word banks to extend her range of vocabulary - great work!
Oliver included lots of detail and description in his writing. What a lovely read!

Izzie loved writing her story and was eager to share it on the blog - amazing!

Charlie applied the range of exciting sentences he has learnt to his story. It was a gripping read!

4MR imaginary world stories

For the past two weeks, children in Year 4 have been learning how to write stories set in imaginary worlds. They have learnt how to paragraph, use exciting vocabulary and describe the five senses of a character.
The children have also learnt how to construct and apply 2A sentences, one pair sentences and choice-question sentences. Amazing!

We have loved watching the children write so enthusiastically and express their creativity within their writing. We even had children asking to stay in at break times to continue writing!

Below are some examples of children's work in 4MR...

Amelia - what a great range of vocabulary!

Alex - great independent work and use of a thesaurus!

Clement - an excellent imagination!

Phoebe - great variety of sentences!

Szymon's Electrical Game

Well done to Szymon who brought into school today this fantastic electrical game that he'd made at home. We're learning about electricity and electrical circuits at the moment and it's wonderful to see someone carrying out extra learning in their own time.

He may be able to help out other parents and children on Electrical Games Day...

Scratch - Imagine, Program, Share

This week, Class 4MH have been exploring the program Scratch in their computing lessons. They are working towards creating their own game and are becoming more and more familiar with the different scripts, costumes and sounds. In this lesson, you will see the children learning how to change their sprite, add motions to their sprite and to add sounds to their sprite. Most children created their own background and designed more than one. Children who attend code club were eager to help and share their ideas with the others.

Most children were able to make their Sprite complete a 360 degree turn.

Some children added in different sounds.

Children designed their own background with careful thought.

Children created a list of motions and have begin planning their game.

Investigating Electricity

This week, Year Four investigated electricity.

The children were given wires, bulbs, batteries, buzzers and motors and were tasked with lighting up the bulb, sounding the buzzer and starting a propeller. The children's team work was also put to the test as they had to work in pairs to be successful!

Here are some of the children in 4MR and their successes...

After successfully lighting their own light bulbs, Ewan and Sophie decided to help others. Fantastic!
But how do circuits work? The children can't wait to find out!
