Investigating Electricity

This week, Year Four investigated electricity.

The children were given wires, bulbs, batteries, buzzers and motors and were tasked with lighting up the bulb, sounding the buzzer and starting a propeller. The children's team work was also put to the test as they had to work in pairs to be successful!

Here are some of the children in 4MR and their successes...

After successfully lighting their own light bulbs, Ewan and Sophie decided to help others. Fantastic!
But how do circuits work? The children can't wait to find out!

Year 4 Cave Art

Inspired by our topic of the Stone Age, all classes in Year Four spent some time today in our very own Stone Age cave, replicating cave art.

Children were able to use all that they had learnt in previous art lessons to produce some wonderful cave art inspired designs. Working by torchlight, each class visited the cave and took it in turns to add to their very own class cave wall.

This is a picture of 4CH creating their cave art pictures using charcoal and pastels.

This is a wonderful piece of finished cave art from 4MH

All teachers were thoroughly impressed with all of the children's efforts.

Well done Year 4!

Adjectives in 4MR!

The children in 4MR have been learning all about adjectives this week and have used them to create 2A sentences. We watched a clip from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, which then inspired us to write sentences based on Lucy's five senses.

Arjun wrote a fantastic piece of writing and used a thesaurus to search for exciting adjectives.

Emma wrote some wonderful 2A sentences, which were inspired by the film clip.
Well done 4MR!

Welcome and thank you

We were so pleased to welcome the new Year Four this week. They have returned refreshed and have worked so hard this week.

Thank you to all of the children and their parents for their incredible effort with the Home Learning task. The posters are now being displayed in the classrooms, don't they look amazing!

Home Learning Information for Year Four

This coming year, the home learning expectations are as follows:

Each week, there will be times table practice and either a written consolidation or Mathletics task set. (30 minutes)

In school, we have a weekly focus on a spelling rule. A list of spellings to learn that follow the week's rule will be provided. (20 minutes)

Children should read with an adult at least three times a week at home. Where possible, this could be every day. Renaissance Home Connect enables parents to see information about your child's progress within Accelerated Reader.

This home learning will be set on a Thursday and will be due in the following Tuesday. Home learning will begin on Thursday 14th September.

Class teachers will let their class know the day of the week spelling tests will take place.
